Construction of the new Bolton town centre Lok’nStore facility to commence June 2023

Plans to develop the new high quality Lok’nStore self storage facility move a step closer with construction works due to commence June 2023 with completion anticipated December 2023.

The plans for this new facility were approved by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council planning committee in January 2023.

The proposed new landmark building will regenerate an empty gateway site to Bolton town centre and be operated by leading national self storage operator Lok’nStore Group Plc.

The facility will provide access to much needed storage space catering for residential customers and businesses including SMEs across the borough.

The site was brought to market by Future Bolton, the property partnership between PSP and Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council established in 2012 to help maximise the value of surplus land and assets owned by the Council. The selling agent for the site was Lamb & Swift.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Adele Warren, said:

“I am delighted that work is progressing on this project at the key town centre site of Westbrook Gateway.

“The decision by Lok’nStore to invest in a new location shows the growing confidence that the private sector has both in Bolton and in the council’s regeneration plans.

“This is exactly the kind of business that Bolton needs, offering a valuable service that is likely to attract even more employers into the centre.”

Tom Lampard, Property Director, Lok’nStore Group Plc said:

“Lok’nStore are very pleased to be delivering a purpose built and modern self storage facility for households and businesses in Bolton at this gateway site on Lower Bridgeman Street.

“The build project has been tendered to contractors and we expect to be ready to go on site in June 2023, the building will complete by the end of 2023 and following completion of the internal units, will open in early 2024.”

Leena Gillespie, Commercial Director, PSP said:

“PSP has been working in partnership for over 10 years and continue to support the Council in delivering a rolling programme of projects linked to strategic asset ambitions.

“In 2022, PSP started to work with the team at the Council on a property project consultancy basis and have been working most recently on projects in Westhoughton and Bolton Town centre including Mawdsley Street, Church Wharf and Crompton place.

“The agility and flexibility of our Future Bolton partnership with the Council allows us to respond to the specific needs of a community and to bring forward projects that truly support and promote local people and places.”

On completion, the project will provide more than 5,000 m2 of storage space ranging in sizes from 1 m2 to 100 m2+ and lead to job creation of 5 new full and part time roles.
