CW&C council and Public Sector Plc to regenerate vacant gateway land

CW&C council and Public Sector Plc to regenerate vacant gateway land

The regeneration of Winsford continues with the proposed redevelopment of vacant land in a prime location and gateway into the town centre. Waste land in a significant central location on the junction of the A54 and New Road overlooking the River Weaver has been left empty for decades.

That could change after the Council and its partner Public Sector Plc made an agreement with the Lane End Group to transform the 2.7 acre site.

The proposal is to build two drive-thru restaurants and modern residential accommodation available for affordable rent or shared ownership.  It will have a promenade overlooking the waterfront and offer much improved access along the river and connect other routes around the town.

Paul Brown, Public Sector Plc, Director, said “Working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council we’re helping to regenerate land which has been vacant for many years to deliver socio-economic benefits for the community.”

Richard Harrison, Lane End Group Managing Director, said “This is a really exciting development in an area we know well. Lane End is already active in Winsford through our 215-unit development on Rilshaw Lane and we have built up strong links with the local community through our social enterprise, Lane End New Beginnings.

“We’re part of that community and for us to join forces with Public Sector Plc on this scheme would allow us to make a significant contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the area, providing a new high-quality environment for much needed homes on brownfield land.”

The development is expected to be considered by planners in May 2019.
